61st annual institute for building officials

On Thursday, January 17, 2017, Jim Smith will be presenting 2 AIA and ICC Approved Courses:

MAT242—Cross Laminated Timber in the 2015 IBC and NDS

Cross Laminated Timber (CLT), one of the new mass timber products, is now included as a structural system in both the 2015 International Building Code and the 2015 National Design Specification® for Wood Construction. This presentation will give an overview of relevant building codes and standards provisions and describe how they can be used in the structural design of CLT elements and structures. Topics related to connections, structural, and fire protection will be discussed.

MAT252 Code Applications for Nail-Laminated Timber, Glued-Laminated Timber, and Cross-Laminated Timber

This presentation will focus on traditional Glued-laminated Timber (GLT) and innovative Cross-laminated Timber (CLT) wood structural framing members.  GLT has been adopted in the IBC and utilized throughout the world for several decades on a wide variety of buildings. Often selected for aesthetic reasons or its unparalleled design flexibility, glulam also offers superior structural performance combined with long term durability.
